Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Hull
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you patient, resilient, and passionate about helping young people overcome social, emotional, and mental health barriers to learning? GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants to work across educational settings in Hull.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who can build positive relationships with pupils, provide consistent support, and help create a calm and structured environment where young people feel safe, understood, and encouraged to make progress.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Build trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication, social skills, and positive behaviour.
- Respond calmly to challenging situations and use appropriate de-escalation and behaviour-support strategies.
- Work closely with teachers and wider support staff to implement individual support strategies and monitor pupils’ progress.
- Encourage pupils to engage with learning, develop confidence, and become more independent.
Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, pastoral, or additional needs is desirable.
- Experience within a school, youth work, care, mentoring, or similar support setting would be advantageous.
- A calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient approach when working with challenging or unpredictable situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive professional relationships with pupils.
- A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and development of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
