Job Title: Humanities Teacher

Salary Scale: £34,068 to £52,834 per annum (MPS/UPS)
Are you a passionate Humanities Teacher with experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs? Do you have the subject knowledge, patience and classroom management skills to engage young people who may face barriers to learning?
GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking Humanities Teachers to work across secondary schools in Hull. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who can combine strong Humanities subject knowledge with a nurturing, consistent and supportive approach to working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Humanities Teacher Role:
The successful Humanities Teacher will deliver engaging and accessible lessons while creating a calm, structured and supportive classroom environment. You will build positive relationships with pupils, adapt your teaching to individual needs and use appropriate strategies to encourage engagement, confidence and progress.
Humanities Teacher Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging Humanities lessons that are appropriately adapted to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and encourage consistent engagement in learning.
- Use effective classroom management strategies to promote positive behaviour and maintain a calm learning environment.
- Differentiate lessons and learning activities to meet a range of academic, emotional and behavioural needs.
- Monitor pupils’ progress, provide constructive feedback and adapt teaching in response to individual needs.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff to promote pupils’ wellbeing, engagement and educational progress.
Humanities Teacher Requirements:
- QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Strong subject knowledge in one or more Humanities subjects, such as History, Geography, Religious Studies or Sociology.
- Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH needs is essential.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to respond calmly and consistently to challenging behaviour.
- Excellent communication, patience and relationship-building skills, with a nurturing and inclusive approach.
- An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years with explanations for any gaps
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
