Job Title:SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you a patient, resilient, and compassionate individual who is passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs? GSL Education Hull Branch is currently hiring a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in an educational setting in Scarborough.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who can build trusting relationships with pupils, provide consistent support, and help young people overcome barriers to learning. The successful candidate will contribute to a calm, structured, and inclusive environment where pupils feel supported and encouraged to make positive progress.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Build positive and trusting relationships while maintaining clear, consistent boundaries.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication, social development, and positive behaviour.
- Use appropriate strategies to respond calmly to challenging situations and help pupils manage difficult emotions.
- Work closely with teachers and wider support staff to implement individual support strategies and monitor progress.
- Encourage pupils to engage with learning, develop confidence, and become more independent.
Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, pastoral, or additional needs is desirable.
- Experience within a school, youth work, care, mentoring, or similar support setting would be advantageous.
- A calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient approach when working with challenging or unpredictable situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive professional relationships.
- A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and development of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
