Job Title: SEMH Support Staff (Primary)
Location: Doncaster
Salary: £460 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you patient, empathetic and confident supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs? A welcoming primary school in Doncaster is looking for SEMH Support Staff to help pupils feel settled, engaged and ready to learn.
About the Role:
As SEMH Support Staff, you will provide practical and emotional support to primary-aged pupils who may experience challenges with behaviour, emotional regulation, communication or engagement. Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team, you will help children manage the school day, take part in learning and develop positive strategies for handling difficult situations.

Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.

Help children manage emotions and develop appropriate coping strategies.

Support positive behaviour and encourage pupils to engage with learning.

Work alongside class teachers to provide consistent classroom support.

Build trusting, professional relationships with pupils while maintaining clear boundaries.

Support children during lessons, transitions, break times and other daily routines.

Encourage communication, social skills and greater independence.

Observe pupil behaviour and share relevant information with teaching staff.
Requirements:
-
Previous experience supporting children with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs is desirable.

A calm, patient and empathetic approach.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Confidence managing challenging behaviour in a primary setting.

Ability to remain consistent and composed in difficult situations.

Understanding of age-appropriate behaviour and child development.

Ability to work closely with teachers and other professionals.

A genuine commitment to helping children overcome barriers to learning.

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
