Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Secondary)

Salary: £460 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Do you enjoy helping young people build confidence and make progress in their learning? A supportive secondary school in Barnsley is looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team and provide valuable classroom support.
About the Role:
As a Teaching Assistant (Secondary), you will work alongside subject teachers across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping pupils stay engaged and access their learning. Your day may involve supporting individuals or small groups, assisting during lessons and transitions, and providing appropriate behaviour support. You may also help pupils prepare for GCSEs by reinforcing classroom learning and helping them develop their confidence and independence.

Responsibilities:

Support pupils during lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Work alongside subject teachers to help pupils access and complete learning activities.

Provide one-to-one and small-group support where appropriate.

Encourage positive behaviour, engagement and participation in lessons.

Assist pupils with developing confidence, independence and effective learning habits.

Support pupils during lesson transitions and throughout the wider school day.

Provide additional support with GCSE preparation where required.

Share relevant observations and feedback with teaching staff.
Requirements:

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

A patient, calm and encouraging approach to supporting adolescent learners.

Confidence working within a secondary classroom environment.

Ability to support positive behaviour and maintain appropriate boundaries.

Good organisational skills and the ability to work across different departments.

A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their educational goals.

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
