Behaviour Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £92 – £115 per day
About the Role
GSL Education are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Teaching Assistant to support secondary-aged pupils with Autism in a specialist education setting in York.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in SEN, ASC, SEMH or challenging behaviour who is passionate about helping young people develop their confidence, independence and ability to engage positively with education.
The Role
As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged pupils with ASC.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication and social development.
- Help manage and respond appropriately to challenging or distressed behaviour.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and provide consistent support.
- Use appropriate strategies to encourage positive behaviour and engagement.
- Support pupils to access learning and participate in classroom activities.
- Help pupils develop independence, confidence and essential life skills.
- Work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team to implement individual support strategies.
- Follow safeguarding, behaviour management and school policies at all times.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience working with secondary-aged children or young people.
- Have experience supporting pupils with ASC, SEN, SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Be patient, calm and resilient when responding to challenging situations.
- Have a strong understanding of positive behaviour support and emotional regulation.
- Be confident building relationships with pupils who may present with complex needs.
- Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Be consistent, nurturing and able to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
- Have a genuine passion for supporting young people to reach their potential.
