Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support

Location: Rotherham

Salary: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Start Date: Immediate Start

Are you from a sports, coaching or fitness background and looking to use your skills in a school setting? A supportive school in Rotherham is seeking a reliable Sports Coach / Learning Support professional to provide classroom and behaviour support to pupils.

About the Role:

This is a school-based classroom support role, rather than a sports delivery position. You will work alongside teaching staff to support pupils with learning, behaviour and engagement, while helping maintain a calm and structured classroom environment. Your background in sport can be a real asset, bringing transferable skills such as resilience, teamwork, behaviour management and encouraging positive engagement.

Sport will be your background, not the main duty of the role. Depending on the setting, you may support pupils across Primary or Secondary classrooms, provide cover supervision, or assist pupils with SEN and additional learning needs.

About the School:

The school provides a welcoming and structured environment where pupils are encouraged to engage positively with their learning. Staff work together to maintain clear expectations, support good behaviour and ensure pupils feel safe and supported throughout the school day.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide classroom-based support to pupils across the school.

  • Support positive behaviour, engagement and participation in lessons.

  • Work alongside teachers to help pupils remain focused and involved in learning.

  • Provide cover supervision when required, following lesson plans and school expectations.

  • Build positive and professional relationships with pupils.

  • Support pupils with SEN and additional learning needs where appropriate.

  • Use your sporting background to bring structure, teamwork and resilience to the classroom.

  • Promote a calm, safe and supportive learning environment.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • Sports, coaching, fitness or similar experience with strong transferable skills.

  • Confident communication and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils.

  • A calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour management.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively alongside teaching staff.

  • Resilience, organisation and a genuine interest in supporting pupils.

  • School, classroom, SEN or youth work experience is advantageous.

To work with GSL Education as a Sports Coach / Learning Support, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.

We also offer, via our partner, access to accredited Education-relevant CPD courses.

In addition to that, GSL Education are currently offering £100 for the successful referral of either Teachers or Teaching Assistants (Ts &Cs apply).

If you're ready to bring your transferable skills into a school environment and make a positive difference to pupils, we'd love to hear from you.
