Salary: £460 – £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you confident leading a classroom and enjoy helping students stay focused on their learning? A welcoming secondary school in Barnsley is seeking a dependable Cover Supervisor to support pupils and keep lessons running smoothly.

About the Role:

As a Cover Supervisor, you will take responsibility for supervising classes when their usual teacher is unavailable. You will deliver the work provided, maintain a positive classroom environment and support students to remain focused and engaged throughout each lesson. This is a varied role where your confidence, organisation and ability to manage behaviour will make a real difference to the school day.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise classes and ensure students complete the work provided by teaching staff.

  • Give clear instructions and support students with lesson tasks where appropriate.

  • Maintain a calm, orderly and productive classroom environment.

  • Manage behaviour consistently in line with school expectations.

  • Encourage students to participate positively in their learning.

  • Support students across a range of subjects and abilities.

  • Communicate relevant information or concerns to teaching and pastoral staff.

  • Ensure pupils remain safe and appropriately supervised throughout lessons.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • Confident classroom management and strong communication skills.

  • A calm, consistent and professional approach.

  • Ability to establish clear boundaries and manage challenging behaviour appropriately.

  • Good organisation and the ability to work independently.

  • A genuine commitment to supporting students in their education.

  • Experience in a school or education setting is advantageous.

To work with GSL Education as a Cover Supervisor, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
