Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support

Location: Sheffield

Salary: £460 – £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Start Date: Immediately

Do you have a background in sport or coaching and enjoy helping young people stay focused, motivated and engaged? A welcoming school in Sheffield is looking for a Sports Coach / Learning Support professional to provide valuable classroom-based support.

About the Role:

This is a school-based classroom support role rather than a sports delivery position. Your sporting or coaching background will be valued for the transferable skills it brings, including behaviour management, resilience, communication and the ability to provide structure.

You will support pupils across the classroom, assist with behaviour and engagement, and work alongside teaching staff to help students access their learning. Depending on your experience, this could include Primary, Secondary, EYFS or SEN support, as well as cover supervision when required. Sport is your background, but supporting pupils and their learning is the main focus of the role.

About the School:

This inclusive school provides a structured and supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to engage positively with their education. Staff work collaboratively to maintain clear expectations, support positive behaviour and ensure pupils receive the guidance they need throughout the school day.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide classroom-based support to pupils across the school.

  • Support students with behaviour, engagement and their day-to-day learning.

  • Work alongside teachers to maintain a calm and focused classroom environment.

  • Assist with cover supervision and ensure pupils remain engaged with set work.

  • Build positive, professional relationships with pupils and encourage participation.

  • Use transferable coaching skills to provide structure, consistency and motivation.

  • Support Primary, Secondary, EYFS or SEN pupils depending on the school's requirements.

  • Share relevant observations and feedback with teaching staff where appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in sports coaching, education, youth work or a similar setting is desirable.

  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach when supporting pupils.

  • Confidence working with children and young people in a classroom environment.

  • Ability to provide clear structure and maintain appropriate boundaries.

  • A genuine interest in supporting pupils' learning and development.

  • Education, classroom support or SEN experience is advantageous.
