Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a caring, resilient, and proactive Pastoral Support Assistant to work within a supportive secondary school environment in York. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people develop confidence, resilience, positive behaviour, and a strong sense of belonging within school.
About the Role
As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will provide day-to-day support to students who may need additional guidance with their emotional wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, relationships, or engagement with education. You will work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team to identify concerns, provide appropriate support, and encourage students to make positive choices.
Core Responsibilities of the Pastoral Support Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group pastoral support to students experiencing emotional, social, behavioural, or wellbeing challenges.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
- Support students with emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and positive decision-making.
- Promote positive behaviour, attendance, engagement, and attitudes towards learning.
- Identify and communicate concerns regarding students’ wellbeing, behaviour, or progress to relevant staff.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider pastoral team to support individual students and contribute to a positive school environment.
As the Ideal Pastoral Support Assistant, You Should Have:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people in a school, youth, care, mentoring, or similar setting.
- A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach when supporting students through challenging situations.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence supporting students with behavioural, emotional, social, or wellbeing needs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and develop their confidence and potential.
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Provide an up-to-date CV and references covering the last 2 years.
- Have recent experience working with children or young people.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
