Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you calm, patient, and resilient, with a genuine passion for helping young people overcome behavioural and emotional barriers to learning? GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to work in an educational setting in York.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who can build positive relationships with pupils, provide consistent support, and help create a calm and purposeful environment. The role would suit someone with experience in behaviour support, pastoral care, mentoring, youth work, or similar settings.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils who require additional behavioural, emotional, or pastoral guidance.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, social skills, communication, and positive behaviour strategies.
- Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging situations, using suitable de-escalation approaches.
- Work closely with teachers and wider support staff to implement consistent behaviour and support strategies.
- Monitor pupils’ behaviour, engagement, and progress, sharing relevant observations with teaching staff.
Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with behavioural, emotional, pastoral, or additional needs is desirable.
- Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, care, pastoral support, or a similar setting would be advantageous.
- A calm, patient, resilient, and empathetic approach when working with challenging behaviour.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive relationships with pupils.
- A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and development of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
