SEN Teaching Assistant

Primary SEN School – Totton
£85.44 – £100 per day

We are looking for a caring, patient and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary SEN school in Totton, working with children with Autism and a range of additional needs.

The school provides a calm, nurturing and inclusive learning environment, with small class sizes and high staff-to-pupil ratios. This enables children to receive the individual attention, encouragement and support they need to feel safe, confident and ready to learn.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the wider school team to support pupils with their learning, development, communication and wellbeing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support

  • Supporting primary-aged children with Autism and a range of additional needs

  • Helping pupils access a personalised and engaging curriculum

  • Supporting communication, language and social development

  • Helping children with emotional regulation and managing sensory needs

  • Encouraging independence and positive engagement with learning

  • Supporting pupils with personal development and life skills

  • Assisting with classroom activities, practical learning and enrichment

  • Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining a safe, calm and supportive environment

  • Building strong, positive and trusting relationships with pupils

  • Adapting activities and approaches to meet individual children's needs

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff and other professionals

This is a welcoming primary SEN setting in Totton, supporting children with a range of Special Educational Needs, including Autism and associated learning, communication and sensory needs.

Previous experience working within an SEN, Autism, primary school or specialist education setting is desirable but not essential.

We are also keen to hear from candidates with transferable experience, including those who have worked in childcare, youth work, support work or other roles involving children, who have the right attitude and a genuine passion for making a difference.
