Job Title: Behaviour Teaching Assistant

Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

Are you calm, resilient, and passionate about helping pupils manage their behaviour and succeed in the classroom? GSL Education Hull Branch are currently hiring a dedicated Behaviour Teaching Assistant to work in an educational setting in York.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who can build positive relationships with pupils, provide consistent support, and help young people overcome behavioural and emotional barriers to learning. You will work closely with teaching staff to promote positive choices, engagement, and independence.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils who require additional behavioural or emotional support.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining clear, consistent boundaries.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, social skills, communication, and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Respond calmly to challenging situations and use appropriate de-escalation techniques when required.
  • Work alongside teachers and wider support staff to implement individual behaviour and support strategies.
  • Monitor pupils’ behaviour, engagement, and progress, sharing relevant observations with teaching staff.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with behavioural, emotional, pastoral, or additional needs is desirable.
  • Experience within a school, youth work, care, mentoring, or similar environment would be advantageous.
  • A calm, patient, resilient, and empathetic approach when working with challenging behaviour.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and development of children and young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
