Are you a recent Psychology graduate looking to gain valuable experience working with young people? Do you want to use your understanding of psychology, behaviour and development to support pupils in a school environment?

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently looking for a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to work in a secondary school in York. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Psychology graduate to gain hands-on experience in education while developing transferable skills in communication, behaviour support, mentoring and learning support.

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant Role:

The successful Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant will work alongside teachers and support staff to help pupils engage positively with learning. You will use your understanding of behaviour, development and individual differences to build positive relationships with pupils, provide targeted support and encourage confidence and independence.

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils across classroom and learning activities.
  • Apply relevant psychological knowledge to understand and respond appropriately to pupils’ individual needs.
  • Support pupils with their social, emotional and behavioural development.
  • Encourage positive engagement, confidence and independence in learning.
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities, resources and targeted interventions where appropriate.
  • Monitor pupil engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations with teaching and pastoral staff.

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • A recent degree in Psychology or a closely related subject is essential.
  • A genuine interest in working with children and young people and developing a career within education or support.
  • Understanding of child development, behaviour, learning and individual differences.
  • A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach when supporting pupils with varying needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a school team.
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years, with any employment gaps explained
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
