Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently searching for a dedicated, patient, and resilient Learning Support Assistant to work within a supportive educational setting in York. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is confident working with young people who may require additional academic, emotional, social, or behavioural support.
About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide tailored support to students both in and outside the classroom. You will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to help students engage with learning, manage challenges, develop positive relationships, and make meaningful progress.
The role would suit someone who is resilient, adaptable, and confident supporting students who may have experienced barriers to education, including those who require additional support with communication, behaviour, emotional regulation, or social interaction.
Core Responsibilities of the Learning Support Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to help students access learning and participate in classroom activities.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.
- Support students with emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, communication, and social development.
- Promote positive behaviour through calm, consistent, and supportive approaches.
- Adapt support strategies to meet individual learning, emotional, and behavioural needs.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and wider staff to monitor progress and provide consistent support.
As the Ideal Learning Support Assistant, You Should Have:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people in an educational, youth, care, or similar setting.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting students with additional needs.
- Familiarity with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and an understanding of how individual needs can affect learning and behaviour.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence managing challenging situations while remaining professional and consistent.
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and develop greater independence.
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Provide an up-to-date CV and references covering the last 2 years.
- Have recent experience working with children or young people.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
