Job Title: SEN Support Assistant
Location: Darlington
Pay Rate: £90 - £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

Can you provide personalised support that helps children with Special Educational Needs overcome barriers, build confidence, and participate more fully in education?

GSL Education Newcastle Branch are seeking patient and committed SEN Support Assistants to join inclusive schools in Darlington. We are looking for individuals who can respond sensitively to different needs, establish trusting relationships with young learners, and adapt their approach to help each individual access learning successfully.

The Special Educational Needs Support Assistant will provide targeted academic, social, and developmental assistance, working alongside teaching and specialist staff to promote inclusion, independence, and meaningful progress.

SEN Support Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one assistance according to individual educational needs
  • Adapt activities and resources to make classroom learning more accessible
  • Facilitate small-group interventions focused on specific areas of development
  • Encourage communication, social interaction, confidence, and independence
  • Observe progress and share relevant developments with teachers and SEN staff
  • Follow individual support strategies to maintain consistent provision throughout the school day

SEN Support Assistant Requirements:

  • Understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and inclusive education
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with additional needs
  • Ability to adjust your approach according to different abilities and circumstances
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to establish positive relationships
  • Patient, observant, and dependable approach to individual support
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
