Are you a caring, patient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs?

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated 1:1 Autism Support Assistant / SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Chigwell.

You will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child with autism, helping them feel settled, supported and confident throughout the school day. This is a full-time, long-term position starting ASAP, offering an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make a genuine difference within a primary school environment.

About the Role

As a 1:1 Autism Support Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to provide consistent and personalised support for a pupil with additional needs.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a child with autism
  • Supporting the pupil to access learning and classroom activities
  • Helping the child develop confidence, independence and social skills
  • Encouraging positive engagement and participation in lessons
  • Supporting communication and interaction
  • Helping with classroom routines and transitions
  • Providing reassurance and emotional support when needed
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping the pupil regulate their emotions
  • Adapting activities and your approach to meet the child's individual needs
  • Working closely with the Class Teacher, SENCO and wider school team
  • Helping create a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment

Who We're Looking For

We are keen to hear from candidates who are:

  • Experienced as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, 1:1 Support Assistant or Classroom Assistant
  • Passionate about supporting children with SEN / SEND
  • Ideally experienced working with autism, although this is not essential
  • Patient, calm, caring and nurturing
  • Confident building positive relationships with children
  • Reliable, proactive and adaptable
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Committed to helping children achieve their potential

Experience with autism, ADHD, communication needs, learning difficulties, SEMH or behavioural support would be highly desirable.

We would also welcome applications from candidates with transferable experience in childcare, youth work, tutoring, sports coaching, care or support work who are passionate about working with children.
