Salary Scale: £34,068 to £52,834 per annum (MPS/UPS)

Are you a compassionate and resilient teacher with experience supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the patience, adaptability and classroom presence to help young people overcome barriers to learning and make meaningful progress?

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking an SEMH Teacher to work in a specialist educational setting in Scarborough. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated teacher who can create a structured, nurturing and engaging learning environment while supporting pupils with a range of social, emotional and behavioural needs.

SEMH Teacher Role:

The successful SEMH Teacher will plan and deliver accessible lessons tailored to individual learning needs, while providing consistent support with pupils’ emotional wellbeing and behaviour. You will work closely with support staff to build positive relationships, encourage engagement and help learners develop the confidence, resilience and skills needed to progress.

SEMH Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons adapted to pupils with a range of SEMH and additional needs.
  • Establish clear routines, boundaries and expectations to create a calm and purposeful learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and encourage their confidence, resilience and engagement.
  • Use appropriate strategies to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Monitor pupils’ academic, social and emotional progress and adapt teaching accordingly.
  • Work collaboratively with support staff and colleagues to provide consistent, individualised support.

SEMH Teacher Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Previous experience teaching or supporting pupils with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs is highly desirable.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to managing challenging situations.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain consistent boundaries.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and work effectively within a wider team.
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years, with any employment gaps explained
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
