SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT

SEN Teaching Assistant duties

-             Provide 1-to-1 support for ASD pupils, help them understand lessons, complete tasks and manage routines

-            Adapt learning materials by simplifying instructions, using visual aids and providing   alternative resources catered to individual needs

-            Help students manage anxiety, sensory needs and emotions

-            Encourage students’ communication and interaction with peers and participation in group learning

-            Supervise and support with personal care, mealtimes or mobility

-            Promote positive behaviour, engagement and pupil wellbeing

-            Follow safeguarding, health and safety and school policies

-            Work collaboratively with teachers and wider school staff

Role Requirements

-            A patient, empathetic, and resilient nature

-            Relevant experience of working with children with SEN is necessary

-            An understanding of a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, speech language difficulties, and SEMH

-            A Clear Enhanced DBS check

-            GCSE A*-C or equivalent in Maths and English

-            Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support (desirable but not essential)

-            A strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection
