Do you have a background in sport or coaching and enjoy helping young people stay engaged and focused? A welcoming school in Rotherham is looking for a Sports Coach / Learning Support professional to provide valuable classroom support.

About the Role:

This is a school-based classroom support role, with your sporting or coaching background providing useful transferable skills rather than being the focus of your duties. You will work alongside teachers to support pupils with learning, behaviour and engagement, as well as providing cover supervision when required.

Your experience in sport can be particularly useful when encouraging structure, resilience, teamwork and positive behaviour. You will not be expected to deliver PE or sports sessions as part of the main role.

About the School:

This inclusive school is committed to creating a supportive and structured learning environment where pupils feel encouraged to participate and make progress. Staff work closely together to maintain positive behaviour, clear expectations and effective classroom routines.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide classroom-based learning and behaviour support to pupils.

  • Work alongside teachers to help students remain engaged with their learning.

  • Support positive behaviour and maintain clear classroom routines.

  • Provide cover supervision when required.

  • Build positive and professional relationships with pupils.

  • Encourage resilience, teamwork and positive attitudes towards learning.

  • Support pupils with different learning and behavioural needs.

  • Share relevant feedback with teaching staff where appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Experience in sport, coaching, fitness or a similar environment is desirable.

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is advantageous.

  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.

  • A calm, patient and consistent approach.

  • Confidence supporting pupils in a classroom setting.

  • Ability to work effectively alongside teachers and wider school staff.

  • A genuine interest in supporting pupils' learning and development.

To work with GSL Education as a Sports Coach / Learning Support, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.

We also offer, via our partner, access to accredited Education-relevant CPD courses.

In addition to that, GSL Education are currently offering £100 for the successful referral of either Teachers or Teaching Assistants (Ts &Cs apply).

If your sporting background has given you strong communication, resilience and behaviour management skills, and you are ready to use these in a school setting, we'd love to hear from you.
