Children’s Support Worker
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full-Time
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £92 – £115 per day
GSL Education are currently seeking a Children’s Support Worker to join a specialist school in Scarborough on a full-time basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in care, support work, residential settings, youth work or education who is passionate about helping children and young people develop their confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing.
About the School
The school is a specialist setting supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs. It provides a nurturing and structured environment where pupils are supported to develop academically, socially and emotionally.
Staff work closely together to understand each pupil as an individual, recognising their strengths, needs and potential. The school places a strong emphasis on positive relationships, communication, independence and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and development.
The Role
As a Children’s Support Worker, you will provide day-to-day support to pupils both inside and outside of the classroom, helping them feel safe, supported and able to engage with school life.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to children and young people with additional needs.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils through patience, consistency and understanding.
- Supporting pupils with their emotional wellbeing, confidence and social development.
- Helping children manage challenging situations and develop positive coping strategies.
- Encouraging independence and supporting pupils to develop essential life skills.
- Supporting pupils to participate in learning, activities and wider school opportunities.
- Working closely with teachers, support staff and other professionals to provide consistent care and support.
- Responding calmly and appropriately to individual needs and changes in behaviour.
- Maintaining a safe, positive and inclusive environment for all pupils.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Caring, patient and genuinely passionate about supporting children and young people.
- Experienced in a care, support, education, residential or youth work environment.
- Confident supporting individuals with additional or complex needs.
- Able to build strong relationships and communicate effectively with children.
- Calm and resilient when faced with challenging situations.
- Adaptable and able to respond to the individual needs of each pupil.
- A positive role model with a professional and supportive approach.
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Relevant experience is highly valued, but candidates from a range of backgrounds will be considered, including Care Workers, Support Workers, Residential Support Workers, Youth Workers, Sports Coaches, Teaching Assistants and Children's Activity Workers.
