Job title: Sports Coach (Learning Support)

Location: Sheffield

Salary: £460–£650 per week (depending on experience)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Long-Term/ Day-to-day, Full-Time / Part-Time

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are looking for a motivated Sports Coach (Learning Support) to work with a school in Sheffield. This is a school-based classroom support role where your background in sport will help you encourage positive behaviour, build confidence and support students with their learning. While your coaching experience is highly valued, your primary responsibility will be supporting pupils within the classroom rather than delivering sports sessions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead or support structured sports and physical activities.
  • Encourage participation from pupils with different abilities.
  • Provide classroom support for individual students and small groups.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging learning activities.
  • Use sporting activities to develop teamwork and communication.
  • Help pupils build confidence, resilience and self-discipline.
  • Provide additional encouragement to students who need learning support.
  • Liaise with teachers and support staff regarding pupil engagement.
  • Ensure activities are safe, inclusive and appropriate.

Requirements to be a Sports Coach (Learning Support):

  • Previous experience working with children or young people as a a Sports Coach (Learning Support) or similar role is desirable.
  • Experience in sports coaching, PE, education or youth work would be beneficial.
  • Positive and approachable manner.
  • Ability to motivate and engage pupils.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexible and dependable approach.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
