Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are currently seeking a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist school in York on a full-time basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Psychology graduate looking to gain valuable experience working with young people and develop their understanding of education, behaviour, learning and individual needs.

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced teaching and support staff, gaining valuable first-hand experience within a secondary school setting.

The Role

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across the school, both within mainstream lessons and through targeted individual or small-group support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils within mainstream classroom lessons across a range of subjects.
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils who may require additional help.
  • Using your understanding of psychology to develop positive relationships and understand individual behaviours and needs.
  • Supporting pupils with their emotional wellbeing, confidence and engagement with learning.
  • Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and encouraging positive behaviour.
  • Working closely with teachers and support staff to ensure pupils receive consistent support.
  • Encouraging independence, resilience and positive attitudes towards education.
  • Observing and responding appropriately to different pupil needs and behaviours.

About You

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a degree in Psychology or a related subject.
  • Have a genuine interest in working with children and young people.
  • Be patient, empathetic and approachable.
  • Have a strong understanding of behaviour, communication and individual needs.
  • Be confident building positive relationships with pupils.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be reliable, adaptable and willing to learn.
  • Be passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and achieve their potential.

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential. This role would be particularly suited to graduates considering a future career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Teaching, Counselling, SEND or Youth Work.
