Science Technician

Salary: £100 - £120 per day

GSL Education is looking for an experienced Science Technician to join a successful secondary comprehensive school and sixth form for girls in Tower Hamlets. This is an exciting opportunity for a Science Technician with a strong Chemistry background who is keen to support practical science lessons and contribute to a positive learning environment.
The school is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Science Technician who can work confidently in a laboratory setting and has a strong understanding of Chemistry. The successful Science Technician will play an important role in preparing resources, supporting practical lessons and ensuring that laboratory areas are safe, organised and ready for use.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and organise chemicals, equipment and resources for science lessons and practical activities.
- Support teachers and students during practical science lessons, particularly Chemistry-based activities.
- Maintain clean, safe and well-organised laboratories, following school health and safety procedures.
- Handle chemicals and laboratory equipment safely and responsibly.
- Check, maintain and store laboratory equipment and report any faults or safety concerns.
- Ensure practical resources are available and ready for lessons when required.
- Keep accurate records of equipment, chemicals, stock levels and laboratory activities.
- Follow COSHH and other relevant laboratory health and safety requirements.
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the science department as a Science Technician.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Science Technician, ideally within a school, college or laboratory environment.
- A strong Chemistry background, ideally with a degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific subject.
- Good knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures and safe chemical handling.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment would be a significant advantage.
- Good IT skills and confidence using basic computer systems and software.
- Strong written and spoken English with good communication skills.
- Able to work well with teachers, students and other members of staff.
- Reliable, organised and able to manage tasks effectively.
- A positive attitude and a genuine desire to build a long-term career as a Science Technician.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
