Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a resilient, compassionate, and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within a supportive secondary school environment in Hull. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who can build positive relationships with students and provide consistent support to help them overcome barriers to learning.
About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students who may experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs that affect their behaviour, relationships, confidence, or engagement with education. Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff, you will help create a calm and structured environment where students feel safe, understood, and encouraged to make positive progress.
Key Responsibilities of the SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEMH and additional needs.
- Help students develop emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and positive social skills.
- Support students to engage with classroom learning and overcome barriers to participation.
- Promote positive behaviour through calm, consistent, and supportive approaches.
- Build trusting relationships with students while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and wider support staff to monitor progress and provide consistent support.
As the Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional needs.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach when working in challenging situations.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence supporting students who may display challenging or unpredictable behaviour.
- Ability to remain consistent, professional, and adaptable when responding to individual needs.
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and develop positive attitudes towards learning.
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Provide an up-to-date CV and references covering the last 2 years.
- Have recent experience working with children or young people.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
