Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you a patient, resilient, and compassionate individual who is passionate about helping pupils with special educational needs thrive in the classroom? GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work in an educational setting in York.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who can provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support while helping pupils develop their confidence, independence, and engagement with learning.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of special educational needs.
- Assist teachers with differentiated activities, interventions, classroom tasks, and learning resources.
- Support pupils with communication, social, emotional, and behavioural needs where required.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, encouraging confidence, independence, and participation in learning.
- Monitor pupils’ engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations with teachers and the wider support team.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment that meets individual needs.
Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN in a school, care, youth work, or similar setting is desirable.
- A good understanding of additional learning needs and the importance of personalised support.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach, with the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.
- A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare, development, and inclusion of pupils.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
