Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist educational setting in York. This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual who can build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and provide consistent support across their academic, social, emotional and behavioural development.
Teaching Assistant Role:
The successful Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers and wider support staff to help pupils access learning and participate positively in school life. The role would suit someone who is resilient and comfortable supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and other barriers to learning, while maintaining clear boundaries and a calm, structured approach.
Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils during lessons and wider school activities.
- Assist pupils with accessing learning tasks and adapting activities to meet individual needs.
- Support pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Build consistent and trusting relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Work alongside teachers and support staff to follow individual strategies and contribute to pupil progress.
- Help maintain a calm, safe and inclusive environment that encourages engagement and independence.
Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with ASC/SEN or additional needs is highly desirable.
- A resilient, patient and empathetic approach to working with pupils who may present with challenging or complex needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- Confidence in remaining calm and consistent when responding to behavioural or emotional challenges.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a wider team and follow individual support strategies.
- An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years, with any employment gaps explained
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
