Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are recruiting compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils in schools across Sheffield. This opportunity would suit individuals who can build trust with young people, understand the challenges associated with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, and provide consistent guidance throughout the school day.
The SEMH TA will work closely with learners who experience social, emotional, or mental health difficulties, helping them overcome barriers to learning while developing confidence, emotional regulation, and positive relationships.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted assistance to students with individual SEMH needs
- Recognise changes in mood, behaviour, or engagement and respond appropriately
- Facilitate one-to-one interventions designed to strengthen emotional regulation
- Reinforce positive routines and clear expectations within the learning environment
- Record relevant observations regarding pupils’ wellbeing and educational progress
- Coordinate with teachers and pastoral staff to maintain consistent support strategies
SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in young people
- Practical experience within education, SEND, youth work, care, or a similar environment
- Confidence managing challenging situations using calm and appropriate approaches
- Capacity to establish supportive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
- Patient, resilient, and observant approach to working with vulnerable learners
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
