Job title: Attendance Officer

Location: Sheffield

Salary: £460–£600 per week (depending on experience)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Long-Term/ Day-to-day, Full-Time / Part-Time

Could you help schools improve attendance by building positive relationships with Students, families and staff?

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are currently looking for a committed Attendance Officer to work with a school in Sheffield. This role offers an opportunity to support the school's attendance procedures, monitor attendance and help identify barriers that may prevent students from attending regularly.

Responsibilities of an Attendance Officer:

  • Monitor and maintain accurate daily attendance records.
  • Follow up on unexplained absences and persistent lateness.
  • Communicate appropriately with parents, carers and school staff.
  • Identify attendance patterns and raise concerns where necessary.
  • Support pupils who may be experiencing barriers to regular attendance.
  • Maintain accurate records and update relevant attendance information.
  • Work closely with pastoral and safeguarding teams to support improved attendance.

Requirements for the Attendance Officer role:

  • Previous experience in an administrative, education or school-based environment is desirable.
  • Experience dealing with attendance, pupil support or family communication would be beneficial.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Confident communication skills with pupils, parents and staff.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information professionally.
  • Reliable, proactive and able to work independently.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
