Job Title: Cover Supervisor
Location: Barnsley
Pay Rate: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term
Could you take the lead in a classroom, keep pupils engaged, and ensure learning continues smoothly when their usual teacher is away?
GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking confident and responsible Cover Supervisor (CS) to work with inclusive schools throughout Barnsley. This opportunity would suit individuals who are comfortable managing groups of young people, can communicate instructions clearly, and are capable of maintaining a focused classroom across different subjects.
The Cover Supervisor will supervise pre-planned lessons during teacher absence, ensuring pupils understand the work provided, remain on task, and follow expected standards of classroom behaviour.
Cover Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Supervise classes using lesson materials prepared by the regular teacher
- Introduce assigned tasks and clarify instructions where pupils need assistance
- Maintain appropriate behaviour and a purposeful atmosphere throughout lessons
- Encourage students to complete their work independently and remain engaged
- Respond to classroom issues in accordance with established school procedures
- Relay relevant information about progress, behaviour, and completed work to teaching staff
Cover Supervisor Requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people in education, coaching, youth work, or a similar setting is desirable
- Confidence taking responsibility for a full class in the absence of a teacher
- Strong communication skills and the ability to establish clear expectations
- Understanding of appropriate classroom and behaviour management approaches
- Flexible and organised manner when working across different subjects and year groups
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
