Job Title: Experienced Attendance Officer

Location: Sheffield

Salary: £460 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Start Date: Immediately

Are you experienced in supporting school attendance and passionate about helping young people stay engaged with their education? A supportive school in Sheffield is looking for an experienced Attendance Officer to join its team.

About the Role:

As an Attendance Officer, you will take an active role in monitoring and improving student attendance. You will work closely with pupils, families, teachers and pastoral staff to identify attendance concerns, follow up on absences and help remove barriers that may prevent students from attending school regularly.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor daily attendance and follow up on unexplained absences.

  • Identify patterns of absence and raise concerns where appropriate.

  • Communicate with parents and carers regarding attendance matters.

  • Work alongside pastoral and teaching staff to support improved attendance.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance records.

  • Support attendance-related meetings, interventions and follow-up actions.

  • Build positive relationships with students and families.

  • Contribute to the school's wider attendance improvement strategies.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as an Attendance Officer or in a similar education-based role.

  • Strong understanding of attendance procedures and safeguarding.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • Confidence when communicating with students, parents and school staff.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information professionally and maintain confidentiality.

  • A proactive, reliable and approachable manner.

  • Experience using school attendance systems is desirable.

To work with GSL Education as an Experienced Attendance Officer, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
