Are you a caring, patient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs?
GSL Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Colchester, providing 1:1 support to a child with SEN.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEN TA or someone with strong transferable experience who is looking for a rewarding long-term, full-time role within a primary school.
About the Role
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to provide consistent, nurturing and tailored support to a child with additional needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a child with SEN within the classroom
- Supporting the pupil to access learning and participate in classroom activities
- Helping the child develop confidence, independence and positive relationships
- Supporting communication, social development and emotional wellbeing
- Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement with learning
- Helping with classroom routines, transitions and structured activities
- Adapting your approach to meet the individual needs of the pupil
- Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team
- Creating a calm, positive and inclusive learning environment
- Supporting the pupil to achieve their individual learning and development goals
The Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for someone who is:
- Experienced as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Classroom Assistant
- Experienced working with children, ideally within a primary school, nursery, childcare or educational setting
- Passionate about supporting children with SEN / SEND / additional needs
- Patient, caring, calm and empathetic
- Confident providing 1:1 support
- Able to build strong and trusting relationships with children
- Reliable, proactive and adaptable
- Confident working as part of a wider school team
- Able to encourage positive behaviour and support emotional regulation
Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication needs, learning difficulties or behavioural needs would be highly desirable, although candidates with strong transferable experience are also encouraged to apply.
