Are you a patient, resilient and caring Behaviour Mentor or Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with additional needs?
GSL Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated Behaviour Mentor / SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Brentwood, supporting a child who requires additional help with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about understanding the needs behind a child's behaviour and helping them build confidence, develop positive relationships and succeed within the classroom.
About the Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will provide consistent and nurturing support to a child throughout the school day, working closely with the class teacher and SENCO.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 support to a child with additional needs
- Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Helping the child manage challenging situations and develop appropriate coping strategies
- Building a strong, trusting and positive relationship with the pupil
- Supporting the child to access classroom learning
- Encouraging engagement, confidence and independence
- Helping identify triggers and patterns in behaviour
- Using positive and consistent behaviour management strategies
- Supporting transitions, routines and changes throughout the school day
- Helping the pupil develop their social and communication skills
- Working closely with the Class Teacher, SENCO and wider support team
- Creating a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment
- Encouraging the child to develop positive behaviours and greater independence
What We're Looking For
Previous experience supporting children with SEN and/or challenging behaviour is highly desirable for this role.
