Are you passionate about helping children feel confident, supported and successful in the classroom?

GSL Education are looking for a friendly, caring and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Brentwood, supporting a child with Special Educational Needs (SEN) on a 1:1 basis.

This is a fantastic full-time, long-term opportunity starting ASAP, ideal for an experienced Teaching Assistant, SEN TA, Learning Support Assistant or someone with strong experience working with children who is looking to develop their career within education.

The Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will provide individual support to a pupil throughout the school day, helping them access learning and feel confident and included within the classroom.

You will:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a child with additional learning needs
  • Support the pupil with their learning, engagement and classroom activities
  • Help develop the child's confidence, independence and social skills
  • Encourage positive behaviour and participation
  • Support with classroom routines and transitions
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
  • Work alongside the Class Teacher and SENCO
  • Help create a calm, supportive and inclusive classroom environment
  • Adapt your approach to meet the individual needs of the child
  • Encourage the pupil to become increasingly independent

Who We're Looking For

The school would love to hear from candidates who are:

  • Experienced as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Classroom Assistant
  • Experienced working with children in a school, nursery, childcare, tutoring, youth work or similar setting
  • Passionate about supporting children with SEN / SEND / additional needs
  • Patient, nurturing and approachable
  • Confident providing 1:1 support
  • Reliable, enthusiastic and adaptable
  • A strong communicator and team player
  • Able to build positive relationships with children

Experience supporting children with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, behavioural needs, communication difficulties or learning difficulties would be beneficial, but this is not essential.

We are also keen to hear from candidates with transferable experience from childcare, youth work, sports coaching, care, tutoring or support work who are looking to move into a school-based role.
