Job Title: Learning Support Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential? GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting dedicated Learning Support Assistants to work across educational settings in York.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, supportive, and adaptable, with a genuine commitment to helping pupils develop academically, socially, and emotionally. You will work closely with teaching staff to provide tailored support and create a positive learning environment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils who require additional help with their learning.
- Assist teachers with classroom activities, differentiated tasks, interventions, and learning resources.
- Encourage pupils to participate confidently in lessons and develop greater independence.
- Support pupils with communication, social, emotional, or behavioural needs where appropriate.
- Monitor pupils’ engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations with teaching staff.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment where every pupil feels supported.
Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people in an educational, care, youth work, or similar setting is desirable.
- A patient, caring, and encouraging approach with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt support to suit different learning styles, abilities, and individual needs.
- A proactive and resilient attitude with a genuine commitment to supporting pupil development.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
