Salary: £460–£600 per week (depending on experience)

Could you provide the steady support a pupil needs to manage emotions, build confidence and engage with learning?
GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking a compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) to work with a school in Rotherham. The role involves providing consistent support to pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs while helping them develop positive relationships, routines and attitudes towards learning.
Your role as an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

Offer one-to-one and small-group support based on individual needs.

Help pupils develop strategies for managing emotions and difficult situations.

Encourage positive communication and respectful relationships.

Support students in engaging with lessons and completing learning activities.

Reinforce agreed routines and positive behaviour approaches.

Work with teachers and pastoral colleagues to provide consistent support.

Monitor engagement and communicate relevant concerns or progress.
Requirements for the SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) role:

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is desirable.

Background in education, youth work, childcare or support work would be advantageous for an SEMH TA role.

Patient, calm and understanding approach.

Ability to build trust while maintaining professional boundaries.

Strong communication and active listening skills.

Resilience when supporting pupils through challenging situations.

Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.

Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
