Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant

Salary: £92 - £115 per day (Depending on experience)

Are you calm, resilient, and passionate about helping young people overcome behavioural and emotional barriers to learning? GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to work in an educational setting in Market Weighton.

This role would suit someone who is confident supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour and who can build positive relationships while providing consistent boundaries, encouragement, and guidance. It would also be well suited to individuals with experience in behaviour-focused classroom support, pastoral work, mentoring, youth work, or similar support roles.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils who require additional behavioural, emotional, or pastoral guidance.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, encouraging engagement, confidence, and positive choices.
  • Support pupils to manage their emotions and develop appropriate strategies for regulating their behaviour.
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging situations, using agreed behaviour-management and de-escalation approaches.
  • Work alongside teachers and wider support staff to maintain consistent expectations and strategies.
  • Monitor pupils’ behaviour, engagement, and progress, sharing relevant observations with the appropriate staff.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people in an educational, youth work, care, pastoral, mentoring, or similar setting is desirable.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach, with the ability to remain composed when faced with challenging behaviour.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
  • Understanding of positive behaviour strategies and the importance of consistent boundaries and routines.
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and development of young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
