ELSA Teaching Assistant
Location: Market Weighton
Salary: £125 - £140 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education Hull Branch are seeking dedicated ELSA Teaching Assistants to work in educational settings across Market Weighton, providing valuable emotional and social support to pupils who may be experiencing challenges in their personal or school lives.
The successful ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and other professionals to support pupils' emotional wellbeing and development. You will help children develop emotional literacy, confidence, resilience, and positive coping strategies while creating a safe and supportive environment where they feel heard and understood.
Responsibilities of an ELSA Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small group emotional literacy support to pupils.
- Help pupils develop emotional awareness, confidence, resilience, and self-esteem.
- Support children in understanding and managing their emotions.
- Deliver targeted interventions and activities to promote emotional and social development.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to identify and support pupils' individual needs.
- Support pupils experiencing challenges such as anxiety, friendship difficulties, low self-esteem, or emotional regulation issues.
- Monitor pupil progress and provide appropriate feedback to relevant staff.
- Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements of an ELSA Teaching Assistant:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational or similar setting is desirable.
- ELSA training or a recognised ELSA qualification is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting pupils with social, emotional, or mental health needs is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of emotional wellbeing and child development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, empathetic, and supportive approach to working with pupils.
- Enhanced DBS on update service or willingness to apply
