SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Market Weighton
Salary: £110 - £130 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education Hull Branch are seeking dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants to work in educational settings across Market Weighton, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive academic, social, and emotional outcomes.

The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) will work closely with teachers and other support professionals to provide tailored assistance to pupils with a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs. You will play an important role in helping students manage their emotions, develop positive relationships, build confidence, and engage successfully in their learning.

Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support students in managing their emotions and developing positive behaviour strategies.
  • Build strong and trusting relationships with pupils to promote their wellbeing and engagement.
  • Assist teachers in delivering inclusive and engaging learning activities.
  • Support pupils according to their individual learning and behaviour support plans.
  • Encourage the development of social skills, resilience, confidence, and independence.
  • Help manage challenging behaviour using positive and appropriate strategies.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers and relevant support staff.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, nurturing, and supportive learning environment.

Requirements of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs is desirable.
  • Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour is advantageous.
  • A relevant qualification in Education, Childcare, Psychology, Health & Social Care, or a related field is beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH needs and positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on update service or willingness to apply
