Are you an experienced mechanic who enjoys passing on practical skills and helping young people discover their potential? Do you have the patience, confidence and practical knowledge to engage learners who may benefit from a more hands-on approach to education?

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently looking for a Mechanics Tutor to work in a specialist educational setting in Hull. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mechanic or practical professional who can use their industry knowledge to deliver engaging, hands-on learning while supporting pupils’ wider development and confidence.

Mechanics Tutor Role:

The successful Mechanics Tutor will provide practical and engaging sessions designed to develop learners’ understanding of vehicle maintenance, mechanical principles and workshop practices. You will need to combine strong technical knowledge with a supportive approach, helping young people develop practical skills, responsibility and positive attitudes towards learning.

Mechanics Tutor Responsibilities:

  • Deliver practical, engaging sessions covering basic mechanics, vehicle maintenance and workshop skills.
  • Demonstrate safe and appropriate use of tools, equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Adapt practical activities to suit individual learners’ abilities, interests and learning needs.
  • Encourage learners to develop confidence, independence, problem-solving skills and a positive work ethic.
  • Maintain a safe, organised and purposeful workshop or practical learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to monitor learners’ engagement and progress.

Mechanics Tutor Requirements:

  • Strong practical experience and knowledge within mechanics, automotive engineering or a related field.
  • Previous experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring or supporting young people is desirable.
  • Ability to explain practical and technical concepts clearly to learners with varying abilities.
  • A patient, resilient and encouraging approach when working with young people who may experience barriers to learning.
  • Strong awareness of workshop health and safety procedures and the ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years, with any employment gaps explained
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
