English Tutor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Temporary, Full-Time, Part Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary: £25 – £35 per hour (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking an English Tutor to work in schools across York. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable English specialist to provide targeted academic support, inspire a positive attitude towards the subject and help pupils make meaningful progress.
English Tutor Role:
The successful English Tutor will provide personalised tuition to pupils who require additional support with their English studies. You will adapt your teaching approach to suit individual learning needs, strengthen pupils’ literacy skills and encourage greater confidence and independence in their learning.
English Tutor Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging one-to-one and small-group English tuition tailored to individual needs.
- Support pupils with reading, writing, comprehension, grammar and exam preparation.
- Assess learners’ strengths and areas for development and adapt sessions accordingly.
- Set achievable learning goals and monitor pupils’ academic progress.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and encourage confidence and motivation towards English.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure tuition complements pupils’ wider learning.
English Tutor Requirements:
- Strong subject knowledge in English, with relevant qualifications or experience in the subject.
- Previous experience tutoring or supporting children and young people in an educational setting is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain concepts clearly and effectively.
- A patient, encouraging and adaptable approach to supporting different learning needs.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years, with any employment gaps explained
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
