Salary: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you confident managing a classroom and looking for an opportunity to make a difference in a school setting? A welcoming secondary school in Barnsley is looking for a dependable Cover Supervisor to support pupils with their learning.

About the Role:

As a Cover Supervisor, you will take responsibility for supervising classes when their usual teacher is unavailable. You will deliver pre-set work, manage classroom behaviour and ensure pupils remain engaged and on task throughout the lesson.

The role would suit someone who enjoys working with young people, communicates clearly and can confidently maintain a calm and well-structured classroom environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise classes and ensure pupils complete work set by teaching staff.

  • Manage classroom behaviour calmly and consistently.

  • Support pupils with their learning where appropriate.

  • Follow lesson plans and school procedures effectively.

  • Maintain a safe, orderly and focused classroom environment.

  • Provide relevant feedback to teaching staff following lessons.

  • Adapt confidently to different classes, subjects and year groups.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • Confident classroom management and communication skills.

  • Ability to supervise groups of pupils independently.

  • A calm, reliable and professional approach.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to follow instructions.

  • Genuine interest in supporting pupils within an educational setting.

  • Experience in a school or similar environment is advantageous.

To work with GSL Education as a Cover Supervisor, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
