Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support

Location: Sheffield

Salary: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Start Date: Immediately

Do you have a background in sport and enjoy helping young people stay focused, confident and engaged? A welcoming school in Sheffield is seeking a Sports Coach / Learning Support professional to provide classroom-based support across the school.

About the Role:

This is a school-based classroom support role, not a PE teaching or sports delivery position. Your sporting background will provide valuable transferable skills such as behaviour management, resilience, communication and the ability to create structure.

You may support pupils in Primary or Secondary classrooms, assist with behaviour and learning, provide cover supervision, or offer additional support to pupils with SEN and EYFS needs. The role offers an opportunity to bring the positive skills developed through sport into an educational setting.

About the School:

This inclusive school is committed to helping pupils feel supported, safe and ready to learn. Staff work closely together to maintain clear expectations, positive behaviour and a structured classroom environment where pupils can make progress.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day classroom support to pupils across Primary or Secondary settings.

  • Support pupils with learning, behaviour and engagement.

  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and individual pupil needs.

  • Provide cover supervision when required, ensuring pupils remain focused on their work.

  • Support pupils with SEN or additional learning needs where appropriate.

  • Help maintain a calm, structured and positive classroom environment.

  • Use your transferable sporting skills to encourage resilience, focus and positive behaviour.

Requirements:

  • Experience in sport, coaching, fitness or a related setting is desirable.

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is advantageous.

  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.

  • A patient, resilient and consistent approach.

  • Confidence working with pupils across different age groups and abilities.

  • Genuine interest in supporting children and young people in an educational environment.

  • Willingness to work in a classroom support capacity rather than delivering sports sessions.

To work with GSL Education as a Sports Coach / Learning Support, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.

We also offer, via our partner, access to accredited Education-relevant CPD courses.

In addition to that, GSL Education are currently offering £100 for the successful referral of either Teachers or Teaching Assistants (Ts &Cs apply).

If you're ready to put your transferable skills to good use and support pupils in the classroom, we'd love to hear from you.
