Job title: SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Wakefield (WF1) 

Salary: £105–£120 per day (depending on experience)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Long-Term/ Day-to-day, Full-Time / Part-Time

Could you be the patient and supportive person who helps students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) feel confident and included at school?

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) to work with a school in (Wakefield WF1). This role offers the chance to provide personalised support to pupils and help them overcome barriers to learning while developing their confidence and independence.

Your responsibilities as an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide focused one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEN.
  • Assist students with classroom activities, learning tasks and instructions.
  • Adapt your approach to suit individual learning and communication needs.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and social skills.
  • Support positive behaviour and help create a settled learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and wider support staff.
  • Monitor pupils' engagement and provide relevant feedback when required.

Requirements for the SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) role:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly in an SEN setting, is desirable.
  • Experience in education, childcare, support work or a similar environment would be beneficial.
  • A caring, patient and consistent approach is encouraged in TA.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students.
  • A genuine commitment to supporting children's learning and wellbeing.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
