Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you passionate about supporting pupils with special educational needs and helping them overcome barriers to learning? GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to work across educational settings in York.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a caring and adaptable individual who can provide tailored support, build positive relationships, and help pupils feel confident and included in their learning environment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of SEND needs.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and appropriately differentiated learning activities.
- Support pupils with communication, social, emotional, and behavioural needs where required.
- Encourage positive behaviour, independence, confidence, and participation in school life.
- Monitor pupils’ engagement and progress, providing appropriate feedback to teaching staff.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all pupils.
Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND in an educational, care, or support setting.
- Understanding of a range of SEND needs, with experience of supporting individual learning requirements.
- A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt support strategies to meet different pupils’ needs and learning styles.
- Strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
