Contract: Full-time, long-term
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, term time only
Salary: £2006 – £2491 per month

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a full-time Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in York, supporting pupils within their KS4 provision.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building strong relationships with young people and wants to play an important role in supporting their academic, social and personal development.
About the School
The school is a specialist educational setting supporting young people who have experienced barriers to learning and require a more personalised approach to education.
The KS4 provision supports pupils with Autism and associated needs, providing education within small groups and with consistent routines and carefully structured learning activities. The provision is designed around the individual needs of pupils, with opportunities for regulation breaks and a strong focus on helping young people develop confidence, independence and the skills needed for life beyond school.
At KS4, pupils have access to a broad and personalised curriculum including Maths, English, PSHCE, Life Skills, PE, Speech and Language, SEN Tutorial, Qualifications and Skills, alongside a choice of additional subjects such as History, Geography, Science, Computing, Health and Social Care, Art and Design, Graphics, Construction, PE, Catering and Salon.
The setting places a strong emphasis on preparing pupils for their next steps, whether that is further education, employment, training or developing greater independence.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to help pupils access their education and achieve their potential.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
- Helping pupils access and engage with their learning.
- Supporting young people with Autism and associated additional needs.
- Building positive, trusting and consistent relationships with pupils.
- Helping pupils develop their confidence, communication and independence.
- Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and engagement.
- Encouraging positive learning behaviours and participation.
- Supporting practical and vocational activities where required.
- Helping pupils develop important life and employability skills.
- Working closely with teachers and other professionals to provide consistent support.
- Supporting a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment.

Previous experience working within SEN, Autism, specialist education, youth work, care, mentoring or support work would be highly beneficial.
Experience supporting young people at KS4 or helping pupils prepare for adulthood would be particularly advantageous.
