GSL Education is currently seeking a 1:1 Autism Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Harlow on a full-time basis, starting immediately.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a caring, patient and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting children with Autism and additional needs.

You will work closely with a child on a 1:1 basis within the classroom, providing consistent support throughout the school day and helping them to engage with learning, develop their independence and feel confident within the school environment.

The Role

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child with Autism within a primary classroom.
  • Support the child to access lessons and participate in classroom activities.
  • Encourage communication, independence and positive social interaction.
  • Help the child manage emotions and regulate within the school environment.
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team.
  • Follow individual support plans and adapt your approach to meet the child's needs.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience working with children is essential.
  • Experience supporting children with Autism or SEN is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working in a school, nursery or other child-focused setting is preferred.
  • Patient, calm and empathetic, with a nurturing approach.
  • Confident supporting a child on a 1:1 basis.
  • Able to build positive relationships with children and staff.
  • Reliable, proactive and committed to making a genuine difference.
