Are you passionate about helping students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) feel supported, included and confident in the classroom?

GSL Education Newcastle Branch are currently seeking a caring and committed SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) to work with a school in Hartlepool. This is an opportunity to provide individual and small-group support to students who may need additional assistance with learning, communication, behaviour or emotional development.

Responsibilities As an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEN.
  • Assist Special needs children with classroom tasks and learning activities.
  • Help students follow instructions and participate in lessons.
  • Support the development of communication, social and independent learning skills.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and build students' confidence.
  • Work closely with teachers and other support staff to meet individual needs.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

Requirements for the SEN Teaching Assistant role:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people as an SEN Teaching Assistant is desirable.
  • Experience working with SEN students, education, childcare or a similar setting would be beneficial.
  • A patient, calm and consistent approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to supporting student wellbeing and development.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
