GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated, patient, and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to work within schools in York. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to make a meaningful difference to pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils who may have additional learning, communication, behavioural, or physical needs. You will work closely with teachers and other support staff to create an inclusive environment where pupils feel supported, confident, and able to engage with their learning.

Key Responsibilities of the SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of SEND needs.
  • Assist pupils in accessing lessons and participating positively in classroom activities.
  • Adapt support and learning activities according to individual needs and abilities.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence, communication, and social skills.
  • Support positive behaviour and help pupils manage emotional or sensory challenges.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and wider school staff to monitor and support pupil progress.

As the Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting individual learners.
  • Good understanding of additional needs such as Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, or communication needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The resilience and flexibility to respond positively to challenging situations.
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education and helping pupils achieve their potential.

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Provide an up-to-date CV and references covering the last 2 years.
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
