SEN Teaching Assistant – Special School

GSL Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and resilient SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant to work on a full-time basis in a supportive and well-established special school in Wandsworth.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or Support Worker who has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The Role

As an SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students both in and out of the classroom, helping them to engage with learning, develop positive relationships and manage their individual needs. You may work on a 1:1 basis or support small groups of students alongside the wider school team.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting students with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Assisting students with their learning and development
  • Supporting behaviour and promoting positive outcomes
  • Building strong and positive relationships with students
  • Working closely with teachers and other professionals
  • Creating a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience working with SEN and/or SEMH
  • A genuine interest in working within a special school environment
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Experience using PECS and Makaton for non-verbal communication
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children and young people
  • Availability to work full-time
  • The right to work in the UK

Experience working with students with challenging behaviour, Autism, additional learning needs or other complex needs would be highly beneficial.
